We are responsible for planning, commissioning and delivering safe, reliable and efficient transport services across the county, including home-to-school transport, adult social care transport. Operating across a large, predominantly rural area, we work closely with schools, service users, transport operators and internal partners to ensure services are responsive, cost-effective and meet the diverse needs of our communities. Our work directly supports access to education and other essential services, making a real and lasting difference to people’s daily lives. As part of the Economy and Environment Directorate, the Passenger Transport team contributes to wider priorities such as improving accessibility, reducing environmental impact and supporting local economic growth. The Role Herefordshire Council are seeking a motivated and organised Transport Officer to join our Passenger Transport team. In this role, you will provide essential administrative support to the Passenger Transport team, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day delivery of services across the county. You will assist in coordinating home-to-school and adult social care transport, maintaining accurate records and updating databases to reflect changes in transport arrangements. You will act as a key point of contact for enquiries, liaising with transport operators, schools, service users and internal teams to respond to queries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner. A strong focus on customer service will be important as you handle emails, phone calls and written correspondence. The role also involves responding to requests, including making amendments to transport provision while ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies. You will support the monitoring of transport contracts and performance, helping to ensure services meet the required standards. Alongside this, you will contribute to data entry, reporting and the preparation of documents that support both operational and strategic work. You will also play a part in continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes and support the ongoing development of the service. About You We are looking for an organised and reliable individual who takes pride in delivering high-quality administrative support. You will have strong attention to detail and be comfortable managing and maintaining accurate records, as well as handling multiple tasks in a busy environment. You will be a confident communicator, able to build positive working relationships with colleagues, transport operators, schools and service users. A professional and customer-focused approach is essential, alongside the ability to respond to enquiries clearly and effectively, both in writing and over the phone. You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, using your initiative to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines. Good IT skills are important, particularly in using Microsoft Office applications and database systems. An interest in supporting public services and helping to deliver vital transport provision to local communities will be key, along with a willingness to learn and contribute to the continuous improvement of the service.
