Role
The Project Safety Manager plays a key role in the Distribution Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) team, offering expert, practical safety guidance and support to both internal teams and contract partners across the Distribution business.
Responsibilities
* Provide assurance that our contract partners are undertaking works in line with SHE contract and legislation requirements.
* Ensure all work activities are conducted safely, managing and reducing risk to prevent incidents.
* Lead development and continuous improvement of safety components within the Distribution SHE Management System.
* Build relationships with key stakeholders such as regulatory authorities, industry bodies, designers/planners, contractor management and site operational teams.
* Conduct or support investigations into incidents to identify root causes and prevent recurrence, providing technical support in managing serious incidents.
* Promote a psychologically safe workplace enabling people to work safely and confidently.
Qualifications
* Experience in high-risk operational activities (overhead, underground and substation) on distribution networks.
* Recognised qualification in occupational safety (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma) or equivalent knowledge and experience; membership of IOSH or equivalent professional organisation with commitment to ongoing professional development.
* Strong understanding of design, planning, construction, maintenance and operational field practices within the electrical distribution industry and relevant UK safety legislation (CDM Regulations, working at height, asbestos, driving safety).
* Structured approach to assess complex technical issues, evaluate risks and implement effective solutions; proven experience in preparing clear, concise and technically accurate documentation.
Full and current driving licence required due to site travel.
