Overview
Band 5 or Band 6 Biomedical Scientist (Band 5 progression pathway available) in the Blood Sciences laboratory at Weston General Hospital, part of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust.
Responsibilities
* Process a high workload of clinical specimens within a 24/7 shift system covering day, late, night, weekends and bank holidays.
* Maintain analytical quality and clinical urgency, taking appropriate action on abnormal pathology results to uphold patient care standards.
* Participate actively in the training and development of staff within the department.
* Support the implementation of brand‑new equipment as part of a new managed service contract.
* Collaborate effectively within a team, demonstrating excellent communication, organisational skills and attention to detail.
Qualifications
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with UK‑based laboratory experience.
* Band 6 appointment requires completion of an IBMS Specialist Portfolio or review of experience.
* Competent in processing a high workload of specimens, prioritising urgent work and multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced environment.
* Strong team working, organisational, and communication skills, with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
Working Pattern
Full time (37.5 hours per week) calculated across a 13‑week rota period. Shift hours will balance to remain within the contracted time, with lone working as appropriate.
