We offer opportunities for our people to develop beyond their role and span a multitude of disciplines. These are open to all, regardless of background and experience level. Working with us means being part of a team that is harnessing technology and creativity to disrupt a traditional industry.
We are not your average workplace.
What You Will Do
We’re seeking an Engineering Director to lead the next chapter of our technology evolution within Ocean Infinity Solutions - shaping how we design, build, and deliver complex autonomous systems across our global operations.
This is a senior leadership role focused on turning strategy into delivery — building a high-performing engineering organisation that scales with our ambitions and delivers measurable value to the business.
Reporting to the Technology Director, you’ll ensure engineering excellence translates into commercial impact, driving customer success, bid competitiveness, and product leverage across our uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and data solutions.
Responsibilities
* Lead and grow the global engineering organisation - defining structure, capability, and leadership depth across hardware, systems, and software.
* Establish clear operating frameworks that enable consistent delivery - ensuring projects move from concept to production with pace, quality, and assurance.
* Shape the transition from a project-led to a product-focused technology organisation, embedding principles of modularity and scalability.
* Partner cross-functionally with Technology, Operations, and Commercial teams to align engineering priorities to business goals - from bid competitiveness to product margin.
* Drive integration between physical and digital systems — connecting vessel platforms, autonomy software, and data infrastructure into unified, outcome-driven solutions.
* Champion engineering excellence, systems thinking, and design integrity across all programmes, ensuring our technology meets the demands of complex marine environments.
* Develop people and culture, building a leadership bench that drives accountability, innovation, and collaboration across a distributed global team.
* Continuously improve tools, processes, and ways of working to create a global engineering system that is efficient, data-informed, and outcome-driven.
Who You Are
* A proven engineering leader with experience building and scaling multidisciplinary teams in a complex technology or industrial setting (marine, defence, or robotics strongly preferred).
* Background in hardware or systems engineering, with a holistic understanding of how mechanical, electronic, and software systems integrate.
* Skilled at creating structure and process in dynamic environments — bringing order and repeatability without slowing innovation.
* Commercially minded, able to link technical decisions to programme performance, bid outcomes, and long-term product value.
* A confident communicator and coach — capable of setting direction, developing managers, and influencing across a global business.
Desirable
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent status.
* Experience working across both defence and commercial technology landscapes.
* Familiarity with agile and product delivery methods within safety- or mission-critical contexts.
* Exposure to digital engineering environments (PLM, configuration management, data-driven lifecycle management).
* Track record of delivering complex autonomous or data-enabled systems within one- to three-year development cycles.
Salary
The salary varies for this position as we are recruiting in multiple regional locations and job grades. The salary process is based on skills, abilities, and experience required.
What You Can Expect
