Role Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Hybrid working with primary site options in Derby, Warrington, or Manchester

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a relevant degree and experience to contribute to the design of SMR Containment structural components. You will be part of a core team responsible for critical system and component interfaces, developing technical requirements, and performing optioneering to optimize design, manufacturing, and construction solutions aligned with our modular build philosophy.
Reporting to the Manager - Containment of Components, you will lead technical work packages independently and collaborate with stakeholders and supply chain partners to deliver integrated solutions.
Key Results & Achievements:
* Lead design solutions development for Rolls-Royce SMR.
* Navigate the Design Process's Definition Review (DR) gates, ensuring timely approval within project schedules.
* Contribute to the approval process for Rolls-Royce SMR's Generic Design Assessment.

Key Selection Criteria:
* Design experience in areas such as:
o Nuclear or other highly regulated industries
o Nuclear and non-nuclear industrial doors
o ASME Design Codes
o Pressure vessels, piping, and systems
o Manufacturing processes including welding, machining, metal forming, forgings
o Heavy manufacturing and design for manufacturing of fabricated assemblies
o Design for through-life operation, testing, inspection, repair, and replacement of large assemblies
o Structural integrity methodologies and assessment
o Materials behavior and degradation over time
1. Knowledge of UK regulatory standards and safety case methodologies in the nuclear sector.
2. Experience from concept to detailed design, including trade-off studies and bringing designs to manufacture and installation.
3. Proficiency with codes, standards, safety case engineering, requirements management, systems engineering, verification, and validation.
4. Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with supply chain partners to develop integrated solutions, ensuring environmental, safety, security, and safeguarding requirements are met, along with good supply chain management skills.
5. Experience leading technical work packages autonomously, with strong communication skills for design reviews and documentation, including statements of work, RFIs, design reports, and calculations.
