Job description Our public sector client is seeking two dedicated and reliable Groundspersons to join their Outdoor Spaces team. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the upkeep and enhancement of parks, playing fields, sports grounds, landscaped areas and open spaces within the Borough. You'll work as part of a wider team to maintain and improve local outdoor facilities, carrying out a mix of horticultural, grounds, sports facility and basic maintenance duties. Key Responsibilities: Operate and maintain vehicles and machinery including tractors, mowers, diggers and trailers. Carry out routine maintenance and safety checks on equipment and tools. Perform horticultural tasks such as planting, pruning, soil preparation, fertilising and weed control. Maintain sports pitches and facilities, including line marking and goal post erection. Inspect and maintain playground equipment and surfaces, ensuring safety standards are met. Open and close parks and facilities as required, setting alarms and ensuring security. Supervise and guide members of the public, ensuring byelaws are upheld and dealing with enquiries or complaints. Support the safe use of synthetic and hard surfaces, making decisions on closures when necessary due to weather or damage. Provide assistance with pest control and chemical spraying, with appropriate training and calibration. General groundskeeping tasks including litter removal, sweeping, raking and site tidying. May be required to work flexibly across other Environmental Services areas such as waste and cemeteries. Essential Requirements: Qualifications & Training Valid Pesticide Application Certificates PA1 and PA6a. At least two of the following: Chainsaw operation qualification. Current First Aid Certificate. NVQ Level II in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent. Experience A minimum of 12 months' experience in each of the following: Operating a range of commercial grass-cutting machinery and horticultural equipment. Amenity horticulture practices (e.g., planting, pruning, weed control). Use of tractors and complex tractor-mounted equipment (e.g., flails, batwing mowers, PTO-driven tools). Skills & Attributes Team player with good communication skills. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. Committed to delivering high-quality, safe work. Understanding of Health & Safety regulations. Driving Full valid UK Driving Licence including category B + E. Working Arrangements Able to work 37 hours per week on a rota basis: Monday to Thursday: 8:00am - 4:30pm Friday: 8:00am - 1:00pm Desirable Criteria: One year of supervisory experience. One year of experience in: Customer service or public interaction. Sports ground or facility maintenance. Additional driving categories: C1+E, F+K (UK valid).
