Assistant Dairy Manager (Maternity) – Somerset Are you passionate about animal wellbeing—especially when it comes to cows? We are seeking an Assistant Herd Manager to focus on herd health, fertility and calving care. Shift pattern – To be discussed £50,000 - £55,000 per year. DOE House available in the charming local village Essential Criteria: - 3 years’ experience working with dairy cows and youngstock - 1 year of experience leading a team - Cow focused with a passion for all things dairy cow You will be working directly for the client, not through REAL Success. Our Business We are a family-owned mixed farm, who have been milking and caring for dairy cows for over 90 years. The dairy herd consists of 2400 milking cows plus replacement heifers, who are calved all year round. We have separate units for the dairy, calves and maternity with their own dedicated teams. Our milk is supplied to Arla TSDG, whilst also being an Arla regenerative pilot farm since last Autumn and supporting other pilot farms. The farm owner has been recognised within the industry by being Farmers Weekly dairy farmer of the year in 2010, RABDF gold cup winner in 2015, Farm Business of the Year at the Food and Farming awards in 2015 and Tesco TSDG Farmer of the Year 2017 Your Role As the Assistant Dairy Manager, overseeing the Maternity/Fertility unit, you will: Ensure that all stock is cared for to the highest standard of husbandry and in line with the Dairy Health Plan. Make certain that your top priorities are cow comfort, health and the overall well being of the herd Manage the well-being of transition, fresh, close-up and calving cows AI cows alongside the team and partake in genetic selection Ensure herd health and fertility targets are met Lead the Maternity unit team, including day-to-day delegation, embedding protocols and providing formal and informal feedback to staff members. Work closely with the vet and consultants Ensure your unit is kept clean, safe and is an outstanding example of dairy farm assurance standards Working closely with the Dairy Manager and Assistant Dairy Manager (dairy) to run a smooth and safe dairy operation.
