About the role

We are recruiting for an academic Lecturer position for a practicing artist working in the field of computational or technology-driven art. The post holder will be based at UCL East.

The teaching responsibilities will include leading on delivery of taught modules, studio and workshop teaching in one-to-one and group situations, tutorial responsibility for a group of students, and participation in the lively programme of events across the Slade.

Alongside teaching responsibilities, the post holder will hold other roles such as Year Lead.

Role Details / Working Pattern:

This role follows a hybrid working model. While some duties can be undertaken remotely by agreement, teaching and some other core academic responsibilities are delivered in person at UCL.

The role is available from August and is a permanent full-time position which equates to hours per week.

The portfolio should demonstrate the range, rigour and trajectory of your creative practices in art and technology (up to 15 pages PDF, maximum 10MB)

The research statement should provide a brief summary of your current research focus to art and technology (no more than words) and give examples of your most significant recent research outputs as well as your research and exhibition plans for the next two years (no more than words).

Start the covering letter in the "Cover Letter" section and continue in the "Questionnaire" section, where additional boxes can be added.

About you

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge:

The successful candidate will be an artist or creative practitioner with a practice engaging with contemporary digital and computational art, with demonstrated experience in exhibition-making, curatorial practices, and public-facing work. They must hold a Master's degree in a relevant area or discipline and demonstrate a nuanced and critical understanding of the relationship between art making, technology, and culture and have experience of creating inclusive and equitable learning environments, including the decolonisation of thought and the promotion of diversity within art and technology.

The candidate must have a research profile with outputs of suitable quality for submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF).

The candidate must have have experience teaching in higher education and coordinating exhibitions, performances, workshops and public art projects & events, preferably at the intersection of art and technology.

Skills and Abilities:

The candidate will have good oral and written communication skills, well-developed spatial sensibilities and effective organisational skills and be approachable and flexible and possess the ability to relate to staff at all levels and respond to the needs of students with a wide range of abilities and backgrounds. The candidate must be skilled at teaching in a variety of group and one-to-one modes, have an in-depth and critical understanding of computational and digital technologies as they relate to contemporary art practice, with awareness of their wider cultural and socio-political impact.
