About us
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is a fascinating place in which to forge your career. Tasked with keeping Britain moving safely and sustainably, we have a significant impact not only on road safety, but also on the life moments that can only be enjoyed when people can easily travel to their destinations. As a Driving Examiner you will be at the heart of this mission, helping ensure people get their driving future off to a great start. We are looking for proactive, friendly and safe drivers who would like to train to become fully qualified Driving Examiners.
Training and progression
We will provide all the training you need to start your career. Test centres are grouped into clusters, so you will select a cluster local to you. After a job offer is made, you will start training online, then undertake practical training at a local test centre. There is up to three weeks of guidance at regional training facilities before embarking on a varied career assessing driver readiness for licences.
Role expectations
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
* Oversee seven driving examinations a day.
* Interact with customers who may be nervous and use your people skills to put them at ease.
* Record results on a tablet and determine whether standards are met.
* Deliver both positive and negative outcomes with tact and diplomacy.
To make the most of this challenge
You will value diversity and inclusivity and communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally. You must:
* Hold a UK or EU driving licence for at least three years.
* Have no more than three penalty points on your licence.
* Have good knowledge of the Highway Code and road procedures.
* Be friendly, team-spirited and committed to setting high standards for drivers.
What you can expect in return
In addition to a deeply satisfying career and ongoing training, we offer a good work-life balance with flexible working options, 25 days of annual leave, all public holidays, and an extra privilege day for the King's birthday. Benefits include an employer pension contribution of up to 27%.
If you are ready to embark on an engaging career where no two days are the same, we’d love to hear from you.
