Role Overview
This pivotal position has been created to fortify our client's operational capabilities amidst ongoing growth and evolving technological landscapes. As an Operations Engineer, you will play an essential role in maintaining the stability and security of core systems, ensuring seamless delivery of services that underpin the UK's critical operations. This is an exciting opportunity to influence operational excellence while working on mission-critical systems supporting national security and resilience.
Key Responsibilities

* Maintain the health, efficiency, and availability of core IT systems, applying routine patches, updates, and performing system checks to prevent issues before they impact services.
* Troubleshoot and resolve incidents across infrastructure, networks, and platform services ensuring they are managed within agreed SLAs and following ITIL processes.
* Implement standard changes such as security updates, firmware patches, and configuration adjustments, documenting all actions meticulously.
* Identify opportunities for enhancing system performance and operational stability, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
* Strictly adhere to security protocols and organisational standards, maintaining accurate records of activities, tickets, and changes.
* Collaborate with team members to support operational tasks, escalate issues when necessary, and contribute to a secure, dependable environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

* Proven background in operational or infrastructure support within a complex IT environment.
* Strong support experience across Linux and Windows systems.
* Sound understanding of core infrastructure components including networking, firewalls, and virtualisation.
* Familiarity with cloud services and modern IT platforms.
* Experience with ITIL-aligned practices such as incident and change management.
* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues systematically and resolve them effectively.
* Excellent organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail and documentation.

Desired Skills & Experience

* Certifications in Windows, Linux, or Networking to bolster your application.
* Experience with monitoring tools and ticketing/ITSM platforms.
* Knowledge of DevOps practices or automation would be beneficial.
* Background working within high-security environments, understanding compliance and security standards.
