Therapeutic Radiographer

This is an exciting time to be joining our team of Radiographers at NCCC Carlisle. We offer a programme of development including SGRT and MRI based planning, and you will be responsible for delivering radiotherapy to around 1,000 patients per year covering all adult cancers using VMAT solutions, SABR, daily IGRT and radiographer‑led review. You will receive ongoing training to develop your skills as a therapeutic radiographer, with support for newly qualified radiographers through our Trust Preceptor programme.
Work‑life balance is important to us, and we currently operate 08:45 to 17:00 Monday‑Friday. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the Lake District National Park.
Main duties of the job
* Work on a rotational basis as a member of the radiotherapy team in both the pre‑treatment and treatment sections as required; collaborate with the wider oncology team to support the delivery of radiotherapy procedures including pre‑treatment imaging, plan preparation and treatment.
* Undertake radiotherapy practice independently and professionally in accordance with all protocols and procedures, delivering care with care and accuracy.
* Contribute to holistic patient care as part of the multi‑disciplinary team, providing specialist advice and information regarding radiotherapy to patients and their carers.
* Participate in student and staff training.
Job responsibilities
* Work on a rotational basis as a member of the radiotherapy team on a treatment machine or in the imaging section acquiring images and planning radiotherapy.
* Implement and deliver radiotherapy procedures including localisation, imaging, dose calculation and treatment delivery.
* Undertake radiotherapy practice independently and professionally in accordance with all protocols and procedures, ensuring care and accuracy.
* Contribute to holistic patient care, providing specialist advice and information regarding radiotherapy to patients and their carers.
* Participate in student and staff training.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* BSc in Radiotherapy or equivalent qualification.
* State Registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer with the Health Professions Council.
* Evidence of post‑graduate training or study.
Knowledge & Experience
* Recent graduation or recent employment as a therapeutic radiographer.
* Required to undertake Return to Practice training and study if out of practice for greater than 2 years.
* Knowledge of modern radiotherapy equipment, systems and techniques.
* Knowledge of quality assurance in radiotherapy, health & safety, IRR and IR(ME)R legislation.
* Recent employment in a large modern radiotherapy centre.
* Potential to progress within the profession.
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent communication and technical skills.
* IT skills.
* Able to teach, train and motivate others – students, visitors or other staff.
* Able to work flexible hours/shifts and participate in the radiotherapy on‑call rota and CHART with locally agreed terms and conditions.
* Able to work for sustained periods under pressure.
* Willing to participate in out‑of‑hours departmental activities.
* Willing to study and carry out projects; a positive attitude towards the holistic approach to patient care.
