What you’ll be doing
1. Creating highly scalable components and pattern libraries in Figma and cascading down best practices to the rest of the team.
2. Monitoring the design community in adopting our system and contributing to it through analytics and surveys.
3. Scaling the design system to ensure the capacity to handle multiple brands (EE, Plusnet and BT).
4. Building meaningful internal relationships, contributes to a culture of design excellence and promotes a user-centred way of working
5. Advocating for customer needs, overseeing that designers and squads are designing solutions that solve real customer needs
6. Implementing continuous improvement opportunities to improve the design team processes, ensuring a consistent and coherent process to manage design quality and collaboration across squads.
7. Championing innovation and continuously developing the team’s knowledge on emerging trends and changes in customer experience such as customer problems and ensures that the squads are sharing ideas and insights.
8. Mentoring other product designers, helping to improve the team’s craft and meet ambitions as well as act as a technical resource.
Experience needed to be successful in the role
9. Extensive experience building highly scalable components and patterns so they can futureproof the designs where they are being consumed.
10. A track record of prioritising requests from different teams, accessing the various needs and making difficult decisions, often having to push back against stakeholders.
11. Experience coordinating groups of designers as part of workshops to help refine components and patterns that address all needs.
12. Proven ability to build design library content which is fully compliant with our WCAG standard. What you build will be consumed by multiple teams and you will have the support of an in-house accessibility team.
13. Demonstrable experience of using data to understand how people use your components, considering various elements of feedback and performance metrics to when making necessary changes.
14. Previous experience working in either a design system team or contributed to the build and curation of design libraries.
15. Experience working on a white-label or multi-brand project.
16. Proficient experience using Figma which is our core design tool. This includes a strong understanding of its existing features, especially how to leverage variables to make scalable components and patterns.
17. Experience mentoring or managing design peers, instilling best practises and supporting career development.
18. Ideally you will have previous experience working within large organisations with a complex design environment. This will be beneficial when navigating diverse teams and functions.
