The Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. You will work directly with students aged 11-19 who have a range of special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse SEN requirements
2. Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
3. Support students with personal care needs where appropriate
4. Help develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs)
5. Encourage student independence and social skills development
6. Assist with behaviour management using positive reinforcement strategies
7. Support students during breaks, lunchtimes, and school activities
8. Maintain accurate records of student progress and incidents
9. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
Essential Requirements
10. Full driving licence (essential due to school location)
11. Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
12. Understanding of different types of learning difficulties and disabilities
13. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
14. Patience, empathy, and resilience
15. Ability to work as part of a team and independently
16. Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
17. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Desirable Qualifications
18. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
19. Training in specific SEN areas (Autism, ADHD, etc.)
20. First Aid certification
21. Experience in a secondary school environment
22. Knowledge of Makaton or other communication systems
