Westmorland and Furness Council is looking to appoint a Drainage Technician to support the delivery of our highway drainage programme within the Highways Operations Team. This plays a key role in maintaining and improving the condition of the drainage network acrossthe area. A successful candidate will assist with the management of the gully cleansing programme, help investigate and resolve drainage defects and support the implementation of asset management systems. The role includes working alongside contractors, supporting compliance with the Council’s Highways Gully Cleaning & Maintenance Code of Practice, and contributing to the accurate recording and tracking of drainage assets and issues using digital tools.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a specialised area of highways operations while contributing directly to service delivery, public safety, and environmental protection. The Drainage Technician will help build technical capacity within the team, improve responsiveness to drainage issues, and strengthen the Council’s ability to meet statutory duties under the Highways Act. By supporting the adoption of digital systems and enhancing data accuracy, the role plays a critical part in shaping a more efficient, proactive drainage service.
