Overview
Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP) - 4 successful candidates will be offered a full-time educational programme funded at NHS AfC Band 4, gaining credits towards a Post-Graduate Diploma. On successful completion of training, employment is offered with a starting salary projected to be on NHS Band 5. Posts cover the Seisdon area and are based within Seisdon. The programme starts January 2026 and lasts 12 months.
Partnership with Derby University provides the academic component of the training and leads to a Post-Graduate Diploma qualification.
Responsibilities
* Be trained to assess and support children and young people (C&YP) with common mental health difficulties, particularly mild to moderate anxiety, depression and behavioural issues.
* Provide low-intensity interventions (1-1 or group) primarily in school or college settings, based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and guided self-help.
* Develop whole-school approaches in collaboration with educational staff and through co-production with children, young people and carers, focusing on promotion of mental health and wellbeing through group interventions and assemblies.
* Spend part of the week studying at Derby University and part of the week in service, consolidating learning into practice and developing relationships with schools.
* Deliver the taught programme through a mix of university sessions, self-guided study days, and clinical experience in school settings and in Mental Health Support Teams.
Training Details
The training programme is 12 months, starting January 2026, combining academic study and supervised practice across mental health services and educational settings (primary and secondary schools, PRUs, further education colleges).
Requirements
Essential
* Ability to work at degree level or equivalent professional experience with a record of learning or formal study in child development, wellbeing or mental health.
* Experience of working with children and young people; understanding of the educational system in England is highly desirable.
* Experience as part of a multiagency team/MDT.
Desirable
* Knowledge of educational providers/systems and health services/systems.
* Experience of higher-level/university study.
