Location: Bedford College – Cauldwell Street Campus as well as other local sites where needed
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,467 and £28,482 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications please note that the actual salary when Pro-Rata'd is between £20,556 and £22,989*, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 40 hours per week – 36 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About the role:
We are currently seeking two Security Assistants to join our Estates and Facilities department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Security Assistant, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
1. Campus Safety & Security – Maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment through routine internal/external patrols, monitoring behaviour, preventing unauthorised access, responding to intruders, and protecting people and property.
2. Emergency Response & Incident Management – Respond appropriately to emergencies such as first aid needs, fire alarms, lockdowns, floods or gas leaks, using college procedures to ensure staff and student safety.
3. Professional Conduct & Customer Service – Act as a visible, professional presence on campus, upholding the College’s reputation, supporting visitors, maintaining punctuality and presentation standards, and providing flexible support during staff shortages or busy periods.
4. Operational Support & Facilities Assistance – Assist the Estates team with tasks such as emergency cleaning, parcel delivery, litter picking, furniture moves, reporting defects, supporting events and covering other campuses when required.
5. Compliance, Safeguarding & Training – Uphold safeguarding, EDI and health & safety requirements, complete required training (including first aid), and consistently follow college policies, procedures and expected behaviours.
About you:
6. Essential Training & Qualifications – SIA licence (or willingness to achieve), First Aid at Work (or willingness to undertake), strong verbal and written English, and a willingness to gain basic Health & Safety knowledge.
7. Customer Service & Public‑Facing Experience– Experience working with the public in customer‑focused environments, with the ability to communicate professionally with students, visitors and senior staff.
8. Calm, Professional & Solution‑Focused Approach– Ability to defuse difficult situations, follow instructions efficiently, remain tactful and diplomatic, work proactively, and handle emergencies or stressful scenarios with composure.
9. Teamwork, Reliability & College Values – Able to work independently while supporting the team, maintain punctuality and reliability, demonstrate the College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty) and uphold strong health and safety awareness.
10. Safeguarding, Flexibility & Mobility – Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with children and vulnerable adults, be contactable at short notice, and travel across all College sites with a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
