Are you an enthusiastic and self-motivated therapy assistant practitioner?
We have the opportunity for a dynamic and innovative individual to join our Surgery and Cardiology Therapy team. This is a permanent band 4 post, 30 hours per week, based at City Hospital.
We are looking for someone with a special interest in supporting our service to patients within the lung cancer pathway. The post holder will be required to work with patients undergoing thoracic surgery, delivering Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy based interventions. This role is part of a developing service and may evolve to include working with patients undergoing non-surgical treatments such as chemotherapy and targeted therapies.
The successful candidate will have an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a health-related subject plus significant experience working as a Band 3 or Band 4 Therapy Support Worker. Please refer to the person specification document for full details.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will collaborate with Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to set patient goals and provide rehabilitation, including exercise, cognitive assessments, functional activities, breathlessness management, pacing, and relaxation techniques. They will manage their own caseload.
Good communication skills are essential for engaging with patients and working effectively within the team and independently. The individual should be organized, flexible, adaptable, and proactive, seeking support from registered therapists when needed. Accurate documentation of interventions is required.
The role involves using IT for recording patient contacts, data collection, and online training, and may include working across the wider team and supporting weekend services.
