About the Role

We're looking for a Deputy Head of Security to complement our team based onsite from our in Ampthill, Bedfordshire. This role benefits from our 4xFlex working pattern, offering a 4-day working week (Monday–Thursday)

Our Deputy Head of Security provides specialist advice and support to projects, programmes of work and functional business areas across the Lockheed Martin Ampthill site, other geographically dispersed Lockheed Martin locations as well as third-party supplier and sub-contractor facilities.

You will support a small team of security specialists and provide support and ongoing liaison to other parts of the LMUK Security organisation, including the Personnel Security Team and the Facility Protection Team.

You will have a strong background in the selection, design and implementation of physical and Technical IT security measures that could include security fencing, security doors & gates, automated access control systems, CCTV systems and intruder detection systems. You will be familiar with NPSA construction standards and with the types of security measures required to adequately protect highly classified material in a compliant manner. You will have a good working knowledge of the NPSA Catalogue of Security Equipment, be able to produce an Operational Requirement based on business needs as well as undertake assessments of secure areas to determine their compliance, identify vulnerabilities and recommend suitable courses of action to rectify any shortfalls. The undertaking of security assessments may involve some travel to other sites in the UK and overseas and may require occasional overnight stays, for which the business will cover any associated expenses.

You will be a confident and effective communicator, able to influence and engage at all levels of the business; you should be able to explain the value that Security adds and you will work with the Security Team to develop and apply business-minded and risk-managed solutions to security issues and business challenges. You will have experience of developing and conducting security awareness and education initiatives to enhance the security culture across the business. This may include the delivery of one to one briefings on a specific security matter or may involve a presentation to a larger group. Your written and verbal presentation skills should be clear, concise and convincing.

You will investigate security incidents and breaches where you will establish the root cause of the incident; where required, you will prepare reports specifying any preventive or corrective action to be taken. You should have a good understanding of, and be able to apply a logical, methodical process in determining the sequence of events relating to an incident, through interviews and other investigative techniques and should be able to present this in a professional and coherent manner.

You will report directly to the LMUK Head of Security and you will have their full delegated authority during any periods of absence.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

1. Proven experience of Leading and Managing a team of Security specialists
2. Background within UK Defence, Armed Forces, Policing or a Corporate Security environment
3. A proven track record in the selection, design and implementation of physical security measures that could include security fencing, security doors & gates, automated access control systems, CCTV systems and intruder detection systems.
4. Understanding of government security procedures, including document, personnel and procedural security
5. Ability to conduct physical security surveys and advisory visits, utilising the HMG Classified Material Assessment Tool (CMAT) or a similar structured assessment methodology.
6. knowledge of the CPNI Catalogue of Security Equipment, be able to produce an Operational Requirement based on business needs
7. Knowledge of CPNI construction standards, GS007 Security Directive (formerly the UK Security Policy Framework), JSP440 and the Security Risk Management Process
8. Capable of developing and delivering security awareness and training initiatives
9. Outstanding communication skills, able to influence and build lasting stakeholder relationships
