Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Sessional Dentists to join our team at the newly established Urgent Dental Access Centre in Carlisle. This is a new service providing emergency dental care to the patients of Cumbria. It is a friendly and professional working atmosphere and an excellent rate of pay.
Position Details
* Availability to cover shifts in the week to cover sickness and annual leave on a sessional basis.
* Flexible working patterns with 2-session and 3-session days available.
* £325 per session
* Location: Cumbria Health Headquarters, 4 Wavell Drive, Rosehill Industrial Estate, Carlisle (near junction 42 of the M6).
Applicants must have availability across Monday to Thursday, as sessions may be scheduled on any of these days.
About The Role
The practice focuses on providing urgent dental care and dental stabilisation services, operating entirely within the NHS.

* At least 4 years of postgraduate experience is essential.

Main duties of the job
The sessional dentist will discharge responsibilities and undertake duties necessary for the proper fulfilment of the service contracts. Duties may be modified by service agreements or contracts in operation.
Key duties include:
* Provide high-quality general dental care to patients resident in the locality under NHS regulations.
* Examine and treat adults and children who do not currently have a GDP, within associate dentist clinics.
* Appropriate recall, transfer or discharge of patients at the end of their treatment per NICE guidelines.
* Supervise dental therapists and/or dental hygienists in accordance with regulations.
* Engage in clinical governance, including clinical audit and peer review.

Job Description / Responsibilities (summary)
The following outlines the responsibilities, which may be required routinely or periodically. It is not exhaustive and may include additional duties as determined by service agreements.
* Discharge responsibilities for service contracts and contribute to the performance of the directorate.
* Provide high-quality dental care under NHS regulations; examine and treat eligible patients, including adults and children without a GDP.
* Manage recalls, transfers and discharges per guidelines; supervise dental staff; promote quality of service through clinical governance and audits.
* Participate in corporate functions of the UDAC, including business planning, resource management, contract compliance and performance monitoring.
* Oversee day-to-day management of dental premises, workload scheduling, infection control, resource use, confidentiality of patient data and professional conduct.
Additionally, engage in continuing education, liaise with colleagues and other health and local authorities, and facilitate appropriate referrals to secondary/tertiary services. Other duties as determined by the Clinical Director and annual staff appraisal.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge
* Essential: Basic Life Support; GDC core CPD; Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice; SDCEP/FGDP(UK) guidance on prescribing; legislation governing delivery of oral health care in England.
Desirable:
* Consent legislation knowledge; experience in minor oral surgery; training in urgent and emergency dental care; knowledge of SOE dental software.
Qualifications
* BDS or equivalent
* Dental Foundation Training completed (or equivalent)
* NHS England Performer List registration

* Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
* Empathy, organisation of workload and prioritisation; expertise in a range of clinical dentistry
