Overview

The York School of Architecture is one of the University of York’s exciting transformational initiatives. The School’s interdisciplinary approach builds on York’s research strengths in culture, community, computation, environment and geography, heritage, and social policy to create a school that supports public good. We seek to appoint a Lecturer in Architecture History and Theory to lead in developing the academic curriculum. The successful applicant should have teaching experience and a demonstrable record of delivering research projects and working in a team.

Role

In this role, you will work with the course team to design and develop the teaching curriculum and content. You will acknowledge the accreditation and validation requirements of the Architects Registration Board and the Royal Institute of British Architects. The School was launched in the academic year 2025/26, with the start of the new BA (Hons) Architecture course and a set of PhD courses. The role holders will contribute to the delivery of excellent teaching and scholarly activity within the School. We are developing the new Masters of Architecture course to start from 2028. You will join an exciting new school with a clear intention to deliver a curriculum informed by sustainable and culturally aware architecture for a new generation of architects, responding to the cultural context of the city of York and the University. This role will focus on architecture histories and theories, with an identified specialism related to heritage or a specialised area of history and theories of Architecture.

It is expected that the postholder will liaise with other departments/schools across the university involved in the development and operation of the York School of Architecture to develop innovative curriculum content and student experience.


Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

* Experience of the management, design, development and delivery of teaching related histories and theories of architecture at Undergraduate and Postgraduate level in a School of Architecture.
* Experience of the design, development and delivery of teaching related to design studio projects in a School of Architecture.
* Experience of developing research objectives, projects and proposals and carrying out individual or collaborative research projects.
* Experience of leading on and/or contributing to the production of research outputs and research outcomes.
* To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities
* PhD in Architecture or equivalent experience

Salary: £46,049 to £56,535 a year
