This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of our National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The National Investigations Team is a nationally dispersed team of Investigators working to bring the most serious and significant environmental offenders to justice.
This role is for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. You will work alongside our Senior Investigation Managers and our Major Incident Room, leading investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes. You will coordinate and oversee all aspects of investigations, from identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, to casefile preparation and prosecution.
This is a hybrid working role with potential travel to offices and meetings; occasional incident response and business continuity duties may be required.
Responsibilities
* Lead investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes in collaboration with Partnership Organisations, teams and the Major Incident Room.
* Coordinate and progress investigations by identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, and preparing case files for prosecution.
* Support and develop investigative teams and contribute to the ongoing development of the National Investigations Team.
Experience / Skills Required
* High level of attention to detail; hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills and basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime, leading on serious criminal investigations and workings of a Major Incident Room desirable.
* Experience in driving, using initiative to find solutions, and building and developing investigation teams would be beneficial.
* Successful completion of both SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period.
* Full driving licence required.
