Part-Time Van Driver

We are currently recruiting a van driver to support our programme of Bikeability cycle training in local primary and secondary schools across West Yorkshire. Employment is on a sessional basis, with an initial 3-to-6-month probationary period, depending on experience. The van will be provided by Cycle North.
Main Purpose of the Job
To drive any North Cycle van in a safe and responsible manner and to drop off bikes and other sporting equipment at schools and other locations in West Yorkshire (predominantly in Leeds, Wakefield, Dewsbury and Batley. You may need to liaise with school staff on arrival and be professional and cooperative. The line manager will have planned drop-offs and a schedule for the driver before they commence work. Please note you will have to load and unload multiple bikes in and out of the van, so a degree of fitness is required.
Hours of work
This position is of a casual nature and Cycle North are under no obligation to offer any work and you are under no obligation to accept any work within the organisation, but having accepted you have the responsibility to complete your duties. Your working arrangements shall be flexible hours, Monday - Friday to meet the needs of the scheme. On average, you will be required 10 – 15 hours a week in term time. The work is also seasonal there will be less work in the school holidays.
You will typically be required Monday 6.30am to 9.30pm Wednesday 2pm to 4.30pm and Friday 9am until 3.30pm.
Your availability for work shall be agreed with you in advance. However, if refusal to work has been on 3 consecutive occasions Cycle North may take this as notice that you no longer wish to be considered for work allocation.
Experience
* Proven experience as a delivery driver or in a similar commercial driving role
* Valid clean driver's licence.
* Experience in warehouse operations or logistics is advantageous
* Ability to handle physical tasks such as heavy lifting safely and efficiently
* Strong communication skills to liaise professionally with clients and team members
* Familiarity with traffic regulations and safe driving practices in urban and rural environments
This position is ideal for organised individuals who take pride in punctuality, safety, and excellent customer service. Prior experience in commercial driving or warehouse work will be an advantage but not essential.
Holiday Entitlement and Pay
Pay rates:
* New delivery drivers: £12.50 per hour (rising to £14.50 after a 3–6 month probation)
* Equivalent to £14.01 per hour including holiday pay
* Experienced delivery drivers: £14.50 per hour
* Equivalent to £16.25 per hour including holiday pay
Holiday entitlement:
Holiday pay is calculated at 12% of hours worked and can be paid monthly, annually, or at a time you choose.
Most staff choose to have it paid in September to help cover the quieter month of August.
