An exciting opportunity has arisen in the West Midlands Gen om ics Laboratory (WM GL) in Birmingham, to join our dynamic team of scientists. Following the 2018 NHS England designation of seven national Genomic Laboratory Hubs (GLHs), the West Midland s Gen om ics Laboratory (WM GL) is the designated Central & South GLH leading the Genomic Local Laboratory Network (GLLN) for the Wessex, Oxford and West Midlands Genomics Consortium as part of a national world class Genomics Laboratory Network.
The GLHs are an integral part of the national Genomic Medicine Service providing state of the art, high quality genomic analysis to patients with rare disease and/or cancer. The pace of change is exponential with genomics being placed at the heart of the future NHS. Our workforce is fundamental to the successful delivery of this ambitious and high-profile service.
The WMGL is based at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS FT sitting within the Division of Medicine & Genetics. We work closely with our Central & South Clinical Genetics Services and the Genomic Medicine Service Alliance; with the National School of Healthcare Science; with academia and the Life Science diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries.
We are committed to training and developing our staff at all levels and have active seminar and research programmes supporting Continuing Professional Development.
We are looking for a skilled Clinical Scientist specialising in Bioinformatics to run and develop cutting-edge pipelines for Rare Disease, Cancer, and other genomic services. You will work with advanced sequencing technologies, contribute to national testing programmes, and collaborate with experts across healthcare, research, and industry to deliver real impact for patients. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in a supportive, innovative environment, contributing directly to improved patient care through advanced genomic testing.
