The Opportunity
Under limited supervision, responsible for assisting with facilities and laboratory operations, customer service delivery, and environmental health/safety. Serve as a relationship leader to the customer and licensees. Communicate safety initiatives and other customer information to ensure compliance with site SOPs.
Avantor Services provides a broad range of on-site Laboratory Services for major pharmaceutical clients, collaborating to enhance scientific activities and laboratory productivity.
AstraZeneca seeks a Research Technician within the Avantor Services organization, supporting the Separation Sciences Group in the Early Oncology Chemistry department. This role supports laboratory operations, enabling R&D scientists to focus on their core tasks, primarily supporting early drug discovery through analysis, purification, and characterization of novel products, in accordance with SHE guidelines and Good Laboratory Practices.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
1. Provide technical and operational support by maintaining instruments according to established procedures.
2. Assist in analytical testing, including analysis of crude samples and QC of purified materials using HPLC-MS and SFC-MS.
3. Support automated platforms to ensure timely delivery of purified samples for biological testing.
4. Perform routine instrument maintenance, calibration, and testing.
5. Coordinate with engineers and vendors for maintenance visits, liaising with team members and internal management.
6. Participate in meetings and presentations internally and externally as required.
7. Maintain the highest SHE standards.
8. Work collaboratively with the team to meet goals and objectives.
9. Follow established methods and SOPs.
10. Prepare data summaries and discuss results.
11. Author reports and process documents.
12. Maintain stock levels of reagents and buffers.
13. Assist with sample management within Separation Sciences.
14. Keep the team informed of developments and results, participating in discussions on their impact on projects.
15. Implement AstraZeneca and Avantor safety practices consistently.
Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
1. HND or BSc in Chemistry or Life Sciences; interest in drug discovery is advantageous.
2. Practical lab experience in analytical chemistry.
3. Accurate pipetting skills.
4. Chromatography experience (HPLC) is advantageous.
5. Experience with automation/liquid handling systems is advantageous.
6. Enthusiastic, adaptable, eager to learn.
7. High attention to detail.
8. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
9. Good organizational and planning abilities.
10. Customer service orientation and collaborative spirit.
11. Effective time management skills.
12. Ability to work independently and in a team.
13. Understanding of internal and external team interactions within Avantor.
14. Proficient in IT skills, including MS Word and Excel.
15. Knowledge of Good Laboratory Standards.
