Join to apply for the Clinical Scientist B7 role at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust
Applications are invited for a band 7 Clinical Scientist post in the Regional Radiation Protection Service (RRPS) within the Department of Medical Physics at Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford.
You will join a team of 25 medical physicists, technicians, and computer scientists supported by an admin team. The service provides comprehensive radiation protection, diagnostic radiology, and X-ray engineering services to NHS Trusts, private healthcare providers, dentists, veterinary practices, and others. We are active in research, development, and training, organizing courses locally and nationally. The Service collaborates with the University of Surrey’s MSc programmes in Medical Physics, Medical Imaging, and Radiation and Environmental Protection. Opportunities for teaching, research, and development are encouraged.
The postholder will support all aspects of work, including calculations, measurements, and radiation surveys on diagnostic X-ray systems, as well as non-ionising areas such as MRI, ultrasound, lasers, and UV. Radiation protection support is also provided to Nuclear Medicine departments, PET/CT scanners, and radiotherapy centers. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic, a good communicator, and a team player. The post holder will be encouraged to work towards MPE / RPA / RWA / LPA certification and possibly join the HSST training scheme later. A good honours degree in physical sciences is required, along with completion or nearing completion of the STP training scheme or an equivalent. Travel is involved, and a current driving license is essential.
Applicants not fully meeting the job description and still in training will be considered at a lower grade and upgraded to band 7 upon meeting the full requirements.
