Job Summary
Are you looking for a new and exciting community-based role, working within a supportive and friendly team?
This band 6 post will be for 37.5 hours per week on a 12 month contract, covering 8am-8pm Mon-Friday, including Bank Holidays.
We are looking for a post‑registration qualified nurse with paediatric experience, teaching and assessing skills, working with children with complex needs, and safeguarding experience is desirable.
Based primarily at L11, University of Reading, London Rd, RG1 5EX but also covering Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham.
Responsibilities
* Hold a caseload of children with a wide range of medical and nursing needs across Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham
* Work within the CCN team while improving cohesive working between the CCN and specialist school nursing team.
* Act as a keyworker for children and families, linking hospital and community, signposting to other support and liaising with other professionals.
* Provide excellent standards of clinical nursing care, support and advice to children and families, including regular reviews, visits and attending clinic appointments as needed.
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings with allied professionals, including discharge planning meetings, safeguarding meetings, team meetings etc.
* Maintain central lines and all associated care, taking bloods as required.
* Administer medications such as IM injections and intravenous antibiotics.
* Raise concerns appropriately and be involved with safeguarding processes, attend Child in Need / Child Protection meetings as required.
* Participate in the extension of the 8am‑8pm service in conjunction with senior nursing staff as required.
* Participate in the Rapid Response rota alongside the Police if a child dies unexpectedly in the community.
Qualifications & Experience
* NMC Registered Children's Nursing qualification / RSCN / RNCB qualification
* Post‑registration experience in paediatrics
* Safeguarding knowledge and experience
* Experience working with children and young people with complex health needs and associated learning disability
* Experience or training in clinical skills, children’s community nursing, and hospice experience (desirable)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work flexibly to meet service needs
* Good understanding of IT skills
* Knowledge of palliative and end‑of‑life care (desirable)
* Ability to manage and motivate junior staff (desirable)
* UK driving licence and access to vehicle for work purposes
Continuous Professional Development
Evidence of CPD and safeguarding children experience.
