Tell us about a payroll system implementation you’ve been involved in what was your role, and how did you help identify and resolve discrepancies during parallel runs?

Payroll accuracy is critical. Can you share an example of a complex payroll issue you spotted before sign-off and how you resolved it?

This role balances project work with BAU payroll delivery. How do you stay organised and accurate when juggling tight deadlines, multiple contracts, and competing priorities?

The Opportunity We’re looking for a detail-driven, experienced Payroll Advisor to join our Payroll team on a 6-month temporary assignment. This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in the implementation of a new payroll system, while also supporting the delivery of accurate, compliant payroll across a complex, fast-paced environment. If you enjoy getting into the detail, spotting discrepancies others miss, and helping teams transition smoothly through system change this one’s for you.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
Supporting the implementation of a new payroll system
Running and analysing parallel payrolls
Identifying discrepancies, root causes, and recommending solutions
Reviewing existing payroll processes and helping design and embed new ones
Assisting with the documentation of payroll training materials and guidance
Business-as-Usual Payroll Support
Processing payroll end-to-end across multiple contracts, on time and accurately
Applying various National / Pay Agreements, including pay rate increases and back pay calculations
Processing starters, leavers, and all associated payments
Auditing payroll work completed by colleagues and providing constructive feedback
Supporting payroll analysis and final sign-off processes
Producing and analysing payroll reports for stakeholders across the business
Handling payroll queries professionally and efficiently
Working closely with other departments to meet deadlines and maintain clear communication
Ensuring payroll policies, processes, and procedures are followed consistently
Ad Hoc & Year-End Duties
Supporting Tax Year End processes
Processing Benefits in Kind and producing P11Ds
Assisting with annual pay increases
Maintaining accurate records and filing systems
Keeping up to date with payroll and pension legislation, including Auto Enrolment, HMRC requirements, and mandatory reportingYou will have the following qualifications & experience
Extensive payroll experience in a fast-paced environment
Previous experience supporting a payroll system implementation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel
Up-to-date knowledge of payroll, pensions legislation, and HMRC requirements
High attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative approachIt's great if you also have the following
