About the role In this role the successful candidate would be working as part of the mechanical design team to deliver projects from feasibility through to construction. – (RIBA Stages 1-6) Key Responsibilities Primary duties Lead the design, specification and construction-stage delivery of building-specific mechanical services projects, covering all elements of Mechanical Services across all relevant RIBA Plan of Work stages. Act as Project Lead on allocated commissions, managing multiple projects concurrently and taking responsibility for technical delivery, programme, and quality. Ensure all designs and installations comply with current British Standards, CIBSE Guides and Codes of Practice, statutory requirements, and other relevant legislation. Prepare building services feasibility studies, technical option appraisals, and energy and sustainability assessments to support client decision-making. Prepare project cost estimates, assess resource requirements, and develop fee proposals for prospective commissions. Represent the practice at internal and external design team meetings, client meetings, and site meetings as required. Mentor and support the professional development of intermediate engineers and graduate engineers within the team. Support the Principal Mechanical Engineer and Engineering Director with portfolio-level reporting, including monthly progress updates, invoicing, and milestone tracking. Foster effective, collaborative working relationships within the project team and across the wider multidisciplinary consultancy. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Skills Essential Desirable Able to manage/prioritise workload to meet deadlines whilst maintaining good communication with clients and design teams. Project leading / client facing experience Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workload effectively across multiple live projects and deadlines. Strong organisational skills, with attention to programme, quality, and commercial awareness. Knowledge & Qualifications Essential Desirable Good working knowledge of industry regulations, building services mechanical design, and installations Good working knowledge of utility services, both new connections and disconnections Project management/leading building service projects Degree in relevant engineering discipline or equal professional qualifications Understanding of electrical services Professional registration with an Engineering Institution (IMECHE, IET, CIBSE etc.) Experience Essential Desirable Experience in building services mechanical engineering, engineering consultancy and/or mechanical installations Experience in design calculation software packages: AutoCAD & IES Experience in renewable technology and renewable systems Experience in design calculation software packages: Design Builder, Cymap, BIM projects and Revit Benefits Permanent, Full time Contracted weekly hours 37.5 Location Hybrid (min two days per week in the office (currently Brierly Hill) - open to remote with some travel to offices for team meetings etc. Working hours Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm (half an hour unpaid break) Benefits Here at Zenergi, we like to reward our team in numerous ways to show our appreciation for their hard work.
