Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine

Main Duties of the Job
This is a full‑time post for a Consultant in Acute Medicine. Sub‑specialist skills and interests, and areas for development such as Clinical Leadership, Medical Education and Research, will be encouraged. You will work with other members of the acute medicine team at Alexandra General Hospital as part of a team of 7 WTE Consultant Acute Physicians to provide high‑quality, compassionate and holistic treatment for patients referred or self‑presented to our Trust in the following areas: The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), the Acute Medical Assessment (AMA), the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), the Emergency Department and the Medical Short Stay Unit. Optional participation in the GIM rota is available for which additional remuneration is available.
The post‑holder will provide a clinical service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and General Practitioners, attend multi‑disciplinary meetings, and work within multi‑disciplinary teams in providing high‑quality clinical care. Work will be undertaken on three sites, closer to the patients’ home. The Trust seeks to extend services to GP surgeries and health centres, and job plans may be revised in due course.
The post‑holder will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
The post‑holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
The post‑holder will attend cross‑county and cross‑site meetings, collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high‑quality, timely service, and work towards meeting the Trust’s and departmental objectives.
If relevant, the post‑holder will participate in the on‑call rota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, to be shared equally with Consultant colleagues in post. The consultant on call must be prepared to attend, willingly, whenever requested by a member of their medical and nursing team.
During weekend on‑call duties, the post‑holder will attend the hospital to undertake patient reviews.

Person Specification
Teaching Experience
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines including undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Research Experience
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
* An awareness of current specialty‑specific developments and initiatives.
* Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years.
* Evidence of having undertaken original research.
Experience
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCT in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
* Expertise in sub‑specialty.

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
* Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Entry on specialist register in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine (or CCT expected within six months of interview date).
