Job Description:
NEW GROUND WON’T BREAK ITSELF.
Every day, our teams help individuals, businesses, and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals.
Our Birmingham corporate tax team is seeking an Assistant Manager. You will join our expanding team and support the growth of our tax practice across the Midlands, focusing on the mid-market and OMBs. We offer excellent opportunities for professional development, portfolio growth, and building strong client and firm relationships. You will contribute to domestic and cross-border tax projects.
We assist clients in navigating complex tax landscapes by providing tailored solutions to manage current risks and anticipate future changes.
We support flexible working arrangements, including reduced hours and job shares, to help you balance work and life.
The Role
As an Assistant Manager in our private capital corporate tax team, you will:
* Manage a portfolio of clients—including owner-managed businesses, private equity-backed, and large groups—supporting their corporation tax needs, including compliance, specialist claims, and advisory projects like project financing and transactions.
* Supervise and review work by junior team members and report directly to Partners and Directors.
* Deliver corporate tax compliance, oversee tax audits, and provide advisory services, acting as the main client contact and collaborating with audit and other teams.
* Coach and develop junior staff, proactively identify new business opportunities, and participate in pitches and proposals.
* Organize the delivery of tax work, solve problems daily, and build internal and external networks to enhance communication skills and collaboration. Maintain a commercial mindset with a clear understanding of client needs.
Candidate Profile
We seek ambitious, driven individuals capable of working at pace and adapting to change. Curiosity, questioning, and a commitment to quality are essential.
The minimum criteria include:
* Qualified (CA, ATT, CTA) with corporate tax experience.
* Strong knowledge of UK corporation tax legislation and international tax concepts.
* Experience supervising staff and reviewing work.
* Experience managing compliance portfolios and tax accounting/audit work.
* Excellent communication skills for supporting team growth and client engagement.
* Flexibility to meet deadlines and manage client commitments.

We pride ourselves on an inclusive culture that fosters growth and performance. Our values—purposeful, curious, candid but kind—guide our actions.
We offer tailored development programs, flexible holidays, benefits like pension, life assurance, private medical, discounts, gym memberships, and financial advice. Visit our benefits section for more details.
