We are looking for a Design Technician to join a very experienced team, working on a range of glazing projects in the commercial building sector. Support and training would be provided to enable the successful candidate to grow and develop in the role.
Purpose of the role
* Responsible for using specialist computer software to produce plans, models and technical drawings to support the design and development of both standard and bespoke product solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Attend meetings and design briefing workshops with clients, designers and architects in order to understand design intent and project requirements.
* Develop the concept and design brief and using AutoCad, produce 2D and 3D plans, models and elevation drawings of specified product solutions as well as alternative solutions.
* Liaise with Product Development Department to resolve any complexities.
* Check drawings to ensure accuracy before issue.
* Develop NBS formatted product descriptions for each product offering.
* Liaise with key internal departments and attend meetings regarding product proposal and handover stage.
* Provide design and technical support for presentations.
* Develop and maintain drawing protocols.
* Develop excellent working relationships with external parties and respond to customer needs and demands in an efficient manner.
* Keep up to date with new technology, and current market trends.
* Ensure the workload planner is maintained at all times and administration tasks are carried out in a timely and accurate manner.
* Ensure knowledge and awareness of your roles and responsibilities under the Company’s integrated management systems in relation to Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental.
* Ensure knowledge and understanding of the Company’s policies and procedures in relation to data protection legislation.
Person Specification
* Recent experience (within the last year) of using AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT (version 2016 or later) is essential
* Good problem-solving skills and a desire to come up with practical and innovative solutions
* Ability to convert verbal and written information into 2D and 3D drawings and models
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to build up a good rapport with internal departments and external customers
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Good colour vision
* Efficient and well organised
* Self-motivated and able to use initiative and work without supervision
* Ability to demonstrate a commitment to own personal development within the role
* A keen interest in the business
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
* Recent experience (within the last year) of using AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT
* Experience of using AutoCAD Version 2016 or later
* Experience of working within the Commercial Fit Out Industry
* Experience working for a subcontractor, ideally Glazed Partitions or Joinery.
* GCSE English (or equivalent)
* GCSE Maths (or equivalent)
* Advanced IT skills
In addition, the following is desirable:
* Proficient in Revit
* Proficient in SolidWorks
* Experience working with Structural Glazing/Facades
Working Hours
* 37.5 hours per week: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5.00 pm, with a 1-hour lunch break each day.
Salary and Benefits
* £30,000-35,000 per year
* Workplace Pension Scheme.
* Option to join Private Medical Scheme following successful completion of probationary period.

* Annual leave of 20 days, plus 8 UK public holidays, plus 3 days between the Christmas and New Year period. Following successful completion of probationary period employees also become eligible for an additional days’ holiday to be taken on or around their birthday each year, and after 5 years’ service employees become eligible for an additional 5 days’ holiday per annum.
