Opportunity to be part of the paediatric team at Frimley Park Hospital as a Trust Doctor ST3+ equivalent. Successful candidate will work across the paediatric and neonatal teams.

This post is for 12 months, commencing September 2026. 2 posts are available. ST3+ trainees work a full shift rota, covering daytime duties and out-of-hours shifts across both general paediatrics and neonatal services.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic resident doctor who has an interest in Paediatrics and wants experience before committing to a full training programme. The successful candidate will join the existing team in a modern hospital with a well-equipped children’s department and local neonatal unit (level 2). While this post does not carry formal training recognition, it does provide an opportunity to care for a tremendously varied group of patients in a large paediatric department in a busy District General Hospital. This post holder would join a team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, and resident doctors.

The responsibilities will include a combination of Registrar level night duties alongside day shifts, and an opportunity to develop outpatient skills. There will be opportunity for teaching, and a focus on supporting the middle grade trainees would be expected. You will be assigned a clinical supervisor who will oversee your continued professional development.


Job responsibilities

Provide care of acute patients under the guidance of the senior staff. Be encouraged to participate in audits. Perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with their colleagues both senior and junior. Comply with Infection prevention and control procedures which is the responsibility of everyone. Employees are required to strictly adhere to the infection control policy. This job description is an indication of the type and range of tasks that are expected of the post holder, and other duties may be required, in line with the role and the banding. It will be reviewed and amended from time to time in consultation with the post holder to take account of changing organisational need.


Qualifications

* MRCPCH or equivalent
* Full GMC registration / On specialist register of GMC
* NLS and APLS
* NLS/APLS instructor status


Experience

* Satisfactory completion of core paediatric training
* Experience in neonates to be able to cover a level 2 neonatal unit
* Able to prioritise clinical needs and aware of own limitations, consulting with senior colleagues appropriately and know when to ask for help
* Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English eg able to write legible records
* Able to discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand, establishing relations with patients, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues
* Able to contribute to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting
* Computer literate, understanding the importance and impact of information systems in health care


Skills and knowledge

* Able to perform core clinical and technical skills in paediatric care to the standard expected of a Tier 2 (Registrar level) practitioner
* Participation in training and supervision of junior medical staff/medical students
* Adaptability, innovation and organisation skills, ability to work constructively within the multidisciplinary team preferences, beliefs and cultures
* Understand the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection
* Understand the need for and appreciate the role of audit in clinical practice, understanding the basic principles of research
* Understand the principles of clinical governance, ensuring patients are not put at risk
* Demonstrate a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition
* Evidence of leadership qualities (not necessarily in medicine)
