Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Associate Non-Executive Director (ANED) will support the Trust Board in delivering its statutory duties by contributing to the overall leadership, strategic direction and governance of the organisation.
The postholder will work collaboratively with Executive and Non-Executive Directors to ensure that the Trust provides safe, effective, high‑quality care and continuously improves patient outcomes and experience.
The ANED will participate fully in Board and committee meetings, bringing independent judgement, insight and constructive challenge to discussions and decisions.
The role includes supporting the development and implementation of the Trust's long‑term strategy, ensuring alignment with NHS priorities, regulatory requirements and the needs of local populations.
A key responsibility is to promote strong systems of governance, assurance and accountability, ensuring that risks are identified, managed and mitigated effectively.
The postholder will contribute to oversight of performance across quality, finance and workforce, ensuring sustainable and efficient use of resources.
The ANED will champion NHS values and behaviours, supporting a compassionate, inclusive and just culture that values diversity, reduces inequalities and promotes staff wellbeing and engagement.
The role also involves developing effective relationships with patients, staff, partners and local communities to strengthen collaboration and integrated care.
This is a developmental Board‑level role, requiring a high standard of integrity, commitment to public service and adherence to the Nolan Principles of public life.
