Overview
Consultant in Emergency Medicine role at ZeroAge. The department includes a multi-professional workforce with 31 consultants, 40 Tier 4 middle grades, 670 junior doctors, 48 Advanced Clinical Practitioners, 21 Emergency Nurse Practitioners/Urgent Care Practitioners, 200 nurses, 3 pharmacists, 2 Physician Associates and 115 Clinical Support Workers and Emergency Department Assistants. The department features a 9-bayed adult Resuscitation Area (including three trauma bays) and a Majors Area with 36 monitored bays. There is a paediatric emergency expansion with a new resuscitation area. NUH is the Major Trauma Centre for the largest Trauma Network in the UK, and appointees will be involved in major trauma resuscitation and related activities.
Applicants would be expected to contribute to the ongoing transformation of leadership and governance, with a distributed leadership model and processes suited to modern emergency care.
Responsibilities
* Lead major trauma resuscitation in collaboration with Major Trauma colleagues.
* Participate in quality of care initiatives, patient journey improvements, and education and research activities.
* Contribute to Governance and Audit activities, including incident reporting, risk management, CPD, Quality Improvement and Evidence-Based Practice.
* Engage with Specialty Interface Collaboratives (SICs) in areas of interest and support collaboration across emergency and related specialties.
* Support clinical governance structures led by ED Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement leads and liaise with Area Teams and Specialty Interface Collaboratives.
* Participate in national and local audits, including RCEM audits, for benchmarking and improvement.
* Be involved in clinical supervision for emergency medicine trainees and learners and contribute to education and training.
* Actively participate in rota planning and workforce management, with an annualised self-rostering system and consideration for non-clinical commitments such as quality improvement and education.
Working patterns and development
* Initial post on an 8 DCC, 2 SpA split; 2 core SPA for the first 12 months to assist settling in.
* After 12 months, core SPA reduces to 1.5 sessions with potential for additional SPA aligned to department needs and specialist interests.
* Shop-floor roster includes consultant roles in areas such as Consultant in Charge and Resus Room AMJ, with protected daily consultant supervision sessions for education and governance.
* Opportunities for part-time work may be considered with job plan modifications discussed with the ED Management Team.
Requirements
* Experience as a Consultant in Emergency Medicine or equivalent leadership in an ED setting.
* Willingness to contribute to governance, audits, and quality improvement activities.
* Ability to work within a distributed leadership model and multi-professional teams.
