The Field Engineer will be highly organized, self-motivated, and responsible for installing and basic testing of Telecommunication Equipment and Systems.
The engineer will be expected to work on multiple diverse projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines on time and within budget.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of telecommunication equipment and associated infrastructure (fiber and copper cable) in field environments.
* Carry out Datacenter or PoP audits including all equipment, ports, cabling, and general connectivity.
* Conduct troubleshooting and fault isolation on optical network components.
* Perform network testing, validation, and documentation of optical fiber networks.
* Collaborate with and support senior network engineers (remotely) to configure and test installed telecommunication equipment.
* Work closely with customers and internal teams to deliver projects and resolve technical issues.
* Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of all work performed.
* Perform risk assessments prior to commencing work in the field environment.
* Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards while working on-site.
* Participate in training and development programs to enhance technical skills, ensuring all internal and external training is up to date.
* Send daily reports on progress, status, and risks when required.
* Support cutover or migration activities outside of normal hours as needed.

Desirable skills include equipment commissioning, wavelength adding & balancing, SNR testing, advanced fault finding, CD/PMD testing, and proficiency with OSA, DWDM link, and span build, test, and commissioning.
Educational requirements
* Bachelor's degree or diploma in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
* Practical experience in a Telephone Exchange or Data center environment.
* Understanding of fixed line transmission systems including DWDM & OTN.
* Knowledge of optical and fiber principles including attenuation, dispersion, and signal loss.
* Understanding of DC and AC Power principles.
* Experience with Power Measuring Test Equipment such as Digital Multimeters.
* Willingness to learn new technical concepts and technologies.
* Experience with fiber optic test equipment such as OTDR, Optical Power Meters, and Spectrum Analyzers.
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
* Willingness to travel and work in field environments.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Good communication and documentation skills (MS Word, Excel, Teams).
* Full Clean Driver's License.
Desirable Vendor Experience includes Ciena 6500 Packet Optical Platforms and related equipment.
