The Surrey Schools Speech and Language Therapy Team have a number of exciting new vacancies for Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistants (SLTAs) due to internal promotions and Experts at Hand funding () which will allow us to enhance our offer to children at SEN support.

We are a large and supportive team and can offer you strong line management, peer observations, joint working and a thorough induction and in-house training programme.

The starting salary for these positions is £29,331 per annum based on 36 hours per week, across 42 weeks per year, pro-rata to £31,659. The role is term-time, plus an additional 15 days per year.

We have new posts across all geographical areas of Surrey, with office bases in Reigate, Weybridge and Woking. You will work in a number of mainstream schools as well as in a specialist school or centre.

About the Role

The School-Aged Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Council's support for children with Additional Needs and Disabilities, working collaboratively in the Early Intervention and Prevention Service in Surrey's Children, Families and Learning Directorate, with other teams including Educational Psychology, and specialist teachers.

We aim to deliver the right support at the right time, through assessment and intervention, and by equipping families and professionals with the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with SLCN. We offer universal, targeted and specialist support for children, families, and the school workforce, and work with children and young people with EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plans) and those at SEN (Special Education Needs) support.

The post will include a mixture of mainstream and specialist schools and centres. As well as working with children and young people under the direction of a Speech and Language Therapist, you will join a supportive network of Speech and Language Therapy Assistants who meet regularly for learning and peer support.

Your main duties in the role of Senior Speech and Language Therapy Assistant will include:

11. Working both with small groups and individually with a child or young person within a school
12. Modelling strategies to class teachers / teaching assistants
13. Creating resources for the therapy team
14. Giving both verbal and written feedback to school staff and parents
15. Keeping accurate written case notes
16. Offering shadowing opportunities and peer support to less experienced assistants

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with :

17. 2 years' experience working with children and young people as a SLT Assistant as part of a Speech and Language Therapy Team either within mainstream or specialist schools and centres
18. Evidence of working independently and flexibly
19. Experience of using a range of communication approaches used in Speech and Language Therapy
20. Evidence of use of IT systems such as word and excel, outlook, Teams
21. Evidence of supporting others

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and candidates will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.
