Rugby Health PCN are looking for motivated and compassionate applicants to join our team of GP Assistants - this is a great opportunity to be part of the changing face of Primary Care by supporting clinicians and helping patients - you'll be making a real difference by improving the patient experience in the surgery. Applicants must have experience working within the NHS, have good computer skills and offer excellent customer service.

We have more than one role available.

The GP Assistant position is designed to support our GPs and the smooth running of clinics by predominantly covering administrative tasks and, if needed, some basic clinical duties, enabling them to make the best use of consultation time and improve the patient experience.

Our ideal candidates will have experience of working in a health or social care setting and be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of patient care needs, sound administrative skills, and be competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

As you will be based at one of our 12 GP Practices, you will report to the Practice Manager, and be part of the Practiceteam, with a dedicated GP clinical mentor (during training period, for applicants who have not completed the Competency Framework).

Candidates should have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle as flexibility is required to be mobile across our network if required.

Main duties of the job

This is primarily an administrative role, and depending on the needs of the individual practice, there may also be opportunity for some clinical duties, which may include:

Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow-up appointments of patients for example:

Completing simple clinical observations /investigations as directed locally, such as dipstickurine, taking blood pressure, ECG, phlebotomy.

Supporting the GP with immunisations/wound care.

Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readingsin readiness for the GP appointment.

Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP toapprove and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, and benefits agency forms etc.

Explaining treatment procedures to patients.

Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g., getting an on-call doctor on the phone toask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s);

Sorting clinical post and prioritising for the GP. Signposting some post to other membersof staff; and extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding; adding this topatient notes.

Supporting with QOF reviews

Other duties may also be added where they are required by the individual practice and after appropriate training has been undertaken.

Job responsibilities

Track and record evidence of experience against the national competency framework.

Inform the lead GP of any concerns regarding their role and request professional development as needed.

Be aware of their own professional boundaries and what to do when they are reached.

Participate in an annual individual performance review.

Any other duties as may be requested by the Clinical Lead or Operations Director of the PCN

If required by the Practice, duties can include:

Assisting the practice management team with ordering supplies, liaising with vaccinemanufacturers, taking minutes of practice meetings

Assisting the digital scanning team with clinical correspondence filing

Assisting the reception team at busy times with arriving patients, booking appointments forpatients, retrieving paperwork for collection.Supporting the prescription clerk team withrepeat prescription requests.

Assisting the medical reports team with Subject Access Requests and preparing notes/reportsfor clinicians to process.

With more training and where required by the Practice:

Processing clinical results relating to breast screening and cervical screening and other nationalscreening programmes.

Summarising medical records for newly registered patients (Read/Snomed codes)

Summarising basic incoming clinical correspondence


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Grade A-C in GCSE Maths and English, or
* equivalent (i.e L2 Functional Skills in English and Maths)
* GPA Certificate
* Diploma in Health and Social Care or
* equivalent or Care Certificate


Knowledge and Skills

* A good knowledge of primary care/community health /social care
* systems
* Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with both patients and colleagues
* Ability to work with confidential sensitive information and understand boundaries
* Competent and confident in the use of Microsoft Office
* applications
* Awareness of medical terminology
* Ability to think on feet
* Knowledge of referral processes within primary care
* Knowledge of clinical coding


Experience

* Experience in General Practice/Primary Care or Healthcare
* setting
* Administrative experience and good organisational skills
* Experience of handling data with a high level of accuracy
* Competence in full Health Care Assistant duties
* Experience in using EMIS
* Experience of carrying out ECGs, phlebotomy and lifestyle checks
