Teacher of Special Needs - Primary - Autism - SEN - Reigate
January 2026 start. This role is in a specialist primary school for students with a range of complex learning needs, including autism, with access to therapies (occupational therapy, physiotherapy, music, speech and language) where these are part of a student’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). The team collaborates with therapists to support physical and emotional needs, with on-site facilities and training to support progression to roles such as senior support assistants, teachers, or therapy assistants.
Summary
Specialist primary school setting for students with complex learning needs, including autism, Down’s syndrome, speech and language challenges, and social/emotional needs. Focus on holistic, cross-curricular themes and meeting sensory needs through targeted strategies.
Responsibilities
• Contribute to planning and delivering a sensory-focused, creative curriculum in a class of 6–8 students with autism and related needs. • Implement effective sensory and communication techniques and use specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS. • Work within an Integrated Trauma-Informed Approach with extensive 1-1 support for each pupil. • Collaborate with a senior teaching assistant and 2–3 additional Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to support the class. • Utilize therapy resources and liaise with SALTs, occupational therapists, psychologists, and counsellors where available to support pupil progress.
Requirements
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required. The school would consider unqualified teachers if they have relevant experience to bring to the role.
