Group Head of Internal Audit Overview
The salary for this role is £86,758. The position is full‑time, with onsite work expected three days per week and flexible working arrangements available. The role can be based at Culham, Oxfordshire. Eligibility for SC Clearance and DBS checks is required, including residence in the UK for the last five years. You will lead the development and delivery of a risk‑based internal audit strategy aligned with UKAEA’s mission, providing independent assurance to senior stakeholders including the CEO, Board, and Audit & Risk Assurance Committee. Key Responsibilities
Develop, execute, and manage a comprehensive, risk‑based audit plan. Set the strategy for the Group Internal Audit stakeholder engagement plan and deliver it. Lead the internal audit function: planning, scheduling, assigning work, and estimating resource needs. Mentor management at all levels on effective governance and assurance culture. Ensure coverage of assurance mapping of corporate risks and provide Board, ARAC, and other stakeholders with audit opinions on internal controls. Regularly report to the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, Group Director of QSHE, Risk and Assurance and senior management on findings and audit programme progress. Report and work with the Chairs of the UKAEA and UKIFS Audit and Risk Assurance Committees, providing assurance oversight. Provide management and the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee with an opinion on the effectiveness of internal controls. Qualifications
A professional qualification such as CIA, ACCA, or CMIIA, or an equivalent internal audit certification. Project Management and Risk Management qualification or experience. Ability to challenge and influence at senior management and board level. Advanced knowledge of audit principles, practices, and procedures. Experience implementing assurance quality improvement programmes. Significant knowledge of ISO‑standard certified management systems. Dynamic and inspirational leadership with the ability to set and influence strategy. Excellent board report writing and technical skills. Salary & Benefits
