You will lead a team of staff in making science a vibrant and enjoyable subject for students through your passion for science to make a positive impact on student aspirations and understanding.
The department is equipped with well resourced science labs and is supported by a full time science technician – the school is committed to the promotion of science, including providing students with some fantastic extra-curricular STEM opportunities.
Responsibilities of this Head of Science role include:
1. To lead a team of staff in the delivery of the Science Curriculum so that it engages, enthuses, motivates, and enables pupils to progress
2. Line management of departmental staff – foster an open and equitable culture and manage conflict (if applicable)
3. To collaboratively plan and prepare effective teaching schemes and lessons within the context of the school curriculum
4. To use regular assessments to set targets for pupils, monitor pupil progress towards individual targets and respond accordingly to the results of such monitoring.
5. To fully implement all school policies for creating a culture of high expectations
6. To maintain regular and productive communication with pupils, parents, and carers, to report on progress, sanctions, and rewards and all other communications

Requirements for this Head of Science position include:
7. Teaching qualification with QTS / QTLS (essential)
8. Evidence of being, or having the potential to be, an outstanding leader
9. Knowledge of curriculum with a proven ability to differentiate effectively
10. Ability to establish and maintain high quality planning and recording
11. Good inter-personal, communication, planning, and organisational skills
