Job Summary
Working under the direct supervision of the Lead practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.
Working Pattern
* Monday 8:30am – 1:30pm (5 hrs)
* Tuesday 8:30am – 6:30pm (½ hr break) (9.5 hrs)
* Wednesday 8:30am – 6:30pm (½ hr break) (9.5 hrs)
Main Duties
* New patient health checks
* ECG recording
* Phlebotomy
* INR Star
* Spirometry
* Flu vaccinations, Pneumonia vaccinations and B12 vaccinations
* Chaperoning duties
* Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs and nurses
* Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
* Vaccine and cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
* Surgical equipment and vaccine re‑stocking and stock rotation
* Clearing and re‑stocking consulting rooms
* Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
* Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
* Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual
* Helping to raise awareness of health and well‑being and how it can be promoted
* Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well‑being
Qualifications
* Qualified HCA Level 3 or above
* HCA Core Competency Certificate
* Experience of working in General Practice
* Phlebotomy trained
* Literate and able to perform basic numerical calculations
* Fluent in spoken and written English
* Ability to accurately receive, record and relay information both verbally and written
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience in Primary/Community Care/HCA Role.
* Phlebotomy qualification.
* Interest in further training/extending role.
* Qualified to NVQ Level 3
Experience
* Brings experience from a healthcare environment, understanding the importance of patient care and confidentiality
* Possess a good understanding of infection prevention and control procedures
* Confident working with members of the public in a supportive and professional manner
Desirable Experience
* Have previous experience within a primary care setting
* Computer skill, including working with the EMIS Web clinical system
