SEND Support Assistant | Full-Time Role | September Start | Fenham
Looking to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children with complex needs? We’re looking for a calm, compassionate, and proactive Teaching Assistant to join an experienced team supporting a small group of high-needs pupils from September in Fenham, Newcastle.
These pupils are predominately non-verbal and benefit from a mix of structured support in their dedicated base as well as time spent in EYFS and KS1 classrooms. The role will also involve working with children in KS2, offering targeted interventions such as speech and language support, box time, and Lego therapy.
What You’ll Be Doing:
* Supporting a group of high-needs pupils, providing consistency and connection
* Assisting with early communication strategies for non-verbal learners
* Delivering creative, play-based interventions that support speech, language, and emotional regulation
* Working alongside an experienced, established team who will help guide your practice and share key pupil insights
* Helping children transition smoothly between their base and mainstream class settings throughout the school day
What We’re Looking For:
* A confident, nurturing support professional who’s ready to get stuck in
* Experience with non-verbal or pre-verbal children (or a willingness to learn)
* Someone patient and observant, who can tune into pupil needs without overwhelming
* An understanding of strategies like Lego therapy, box time, or sensory support (or a strong interest in learning them)
Why You’ll Love This Job:
* You’ll be part of a tight-knit, supportive team who genuinely care about the pupils and each other.
* Every day is different: you’ll see real progress and be part of those small but mighty moments that matter.
* You’ll grow your skills in speech and language, early communication, and therapeutic interventions like Lego therapy.
* You’ll work in a school that values inclusive education and gives staff the tools and trust to make a real difference.
* And most of all, you’ll help children feel calm, confident, and capable—just by being there.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a school with a strong, collaborative team and a deep commitment to inclusive education. If you’re ready to support children who need that extra bit of care and connection, we’d love to hear from you.
