Clinical Psychologist (Community MDT Feeding + ASD diagnostic clinic)

This is an exciting split role across two distinct services. Two days a week the post holder will provide a qualified clinical psychology service for children and their families seen by the Community Multidisciplinary Feeding Clinic. The main role in this part of the job is to provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy for children living in Wandsworth who have aversive/restrictive eating behaviour related to sensory or behavioural feeding difficulties, or Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

One day a week, the post holder will undertake assessments for ASD in particular the ADI-R (or equivalent) and the ADOS. They will work as part of a wider team and are an essential part of the neurodevelopmental diagnostic pathway MDT.


Main duties of the job

The main role in this part of the job is to provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy for children living in Wandsworth who have aversive/restrictive eating behaviour related to sensory or behavioural feeding difficulties, or Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). The team supports children, their families and the wider educational community to support and develop safe eating behaviours through multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention.

One day a week, the post holder will provide highly specialist clinical psychology service to children and young people seen within the neurodevelopmental assessment pathways at St George's Hospital. This will involve undertaking screening assessments, specialist psychological assessment, in particular the ADI-R (or equivalent) and the ADOS. They will work as part of a wider team and are an essential part of the neurodevelopmental diagnostic pathway MDT.

Job responsibilities

1. To provide specialist psychological assessments of patients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the clients care.
2. Working within the Autism Diagnostic Pathway, to provide highly specialist neurodevelopmental, cognitive and psychological assessments of CYP based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and psychometric tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with patients, family members and members of the MDT or other multiagency professionals involved in the patients care.
3. To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about the psychological aspects of treatment options offered taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group, (including cultural factors) as well as ensuring that psychological input is in line with and supports the patients best medical interest.
4. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for assessment, treatment options and discharge planning, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
5. To provide specialist psychological advice guidance and consultation to other professionals involved in the patients care.
6. To ensure that all members of the Autism assessment MDT have access to a psychologically based framework for the understanding and care of patients of the service, through the provision of advice, consultation and the dissemination of psychological knowledge, research and theory.
7. To undertake risk assessment and risk management as appropriate for individual patients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
8. To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of patients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary care.

Qualifications

* HCPC
* Psychology qualification
* ADI (or equivalent)


Experience

* Relevant experience working with children
* Experience working in MDT
* Experience completing ASD assessments
