Horse Care Team Member
Aylsham North of Norwich
Part time permanent position
24 hours per week as per rota
(To include weekends and support with one late evening site check a week)
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and flexible individual to join the Equine Centre Team at our Aylsham site situated North of Norwich on a permanent contract.

Salary £14,277.12 for age 21 and over
£10,732.80 for 18 – 20s’
In addition, we offer shift workers a premium pay rate on Sundays (time and a half) and Bank Holidays (double time).
A full clean manual driving licence is essential

Job Purpose
To work under the specific supervision of the Centre Team Leader and provide a high standard of care, ensuring the welfare of the equines in your centre.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
7. To provide high quality care that ensures all equines have access to suitable water, feed and shelter and to ensure that hygiene is maintained.
8. To ensure stables/shelters are mucked out thoroughly, water receptacles are clean and refilled, hay nets filled and weighed.
9. To ensure instructions regarding the feeding of equines is followed stringently.
10. To give a visual health check to the equines including lameness.
11. To inform senior staff of equine ailments and needs.
12. Medication will be prescribed to some of the equines under your care, this you will expected to give on your rounds,
13. To ensure paddocks are checked for hazards and clean.
14. The catching and holding of nervous horses for the farrier and /or veterinary purposes.
15. The grooming, trimming and bathing of equines, with the application and checking of rugs.
16. Transporting of equines safely – as an assistant and/or driver of horsebox/trailer – subject to training.
17. Tractor driving, using paddock sweeper and other implements.
18. General use of tack and equine handling equipment.
19. To understand the importance of effective communication, observation and unified team work.
20. To liaise regularly with your line manager.
21. To be an effective team member.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Experience
22. A sound knowledge and proven working background of caring for equines.
Skills/Ability/Knowledge
23. Ability to prioritise and to make intelligent decisions.
24. To be able to relate and understand information both written and verbally.
25. Communication skills. I.T. etc.
Qualities/Attributes
26. Able to integrate into an established team.
27. Flexible approach to tasks and workload.
28. A commitment to Equine Welfare.
29. The ability to spot something is potently wrong, observing changes in Equines.
Other Requirements
30. Full manual driving licence.
31. Attend courses and or meeting that may be required.
Desirable Criteria:
Education/ Qualifications
32. Formal Qualifications in Equine support.
Experience
33. Working for a similar organisation specialising in Equine Care.
