As a result, alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key component in making Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are recruiting a Senior Construction Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project at our new site in Redcar, Cleveland, Teesside.
Role Purpose:
1. Assist the Project Manager with scope definition, planning, and daily execution of the construction project. Responsible for maintaining aspects of the project schedule, managing submittal approvals, coordinating timely delivery of materials, and managing schedules and budgets.
2. Oversee all technical aspects of the project during the Construction phase, including scope definition, design reviews, TQ’s, subcontractor management, cable calculations, final As-Built checks, and ensuring safety and adherence to schedule.
3. Report to the Project Manager and liaise with key team members such as QS, Design, and Planning.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Construction Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
1. Defining scope of work packages and identifying execution strategies.
2. Ensuring packages are delivered on time, within budget, and meet safety and quality standards.
3. Maintaining accurate records including RFIs, FCDs, WPPs, MCRs, ITPs, Record Drawings, and other project communications.
4. Planning and organizing plant, access, labor, and materials, including procurement activities.
5. Providing technical input for tenders and assisting with technical queries during the tender process.
6. Managing subcontracted work packages and ensuring deliverables and documentation are met.
7. Conducting progress meetings with subcontractors to manage package specifics.
8. Identifying risks and raising EWNs as needed.
9. Drafting site instructions with detailed descriptions, impacts, and references to change events.
10. Providing cost information and supporting the MTO process.
11. Liaising with the Project Manager or Contract Manager regarding project progress, financial, and technical issues.
12. Reviewing designs of power distribution and protection systems for LV & MV.
13. Specifying electrical distribution & control equipment, and overseeing procurement, installation, and commissioning support.
Who we’re looking for
The essential qualities and experience include:
1. Previous Construction Engineering experience in relevant industries.
2. Effective communication skills for managing relationships and delivering operational excellence.
3. Leadership skills with experience leading teams and influencing others.
4. Financial awareness and a commitment to safety and sustainability improvements.
5. Willingness to visit suppliers and monitor activities if required.
Desirable qualities include:
1. Experience with Lean Construction principles and training.
2. Participation in industry events.
3. Membership in professional bodies such as IET.
4. Proficiency in O365.
5. Current driving license.
The role may also require:
1. Formal engineering/construction qualifications (HNC/HND) or equivalent experience.
2. Certifications such as APM PFQ/PMQ/PPQ.
3. Safety certifications like CSCS and SMSTS or equivalents.
4. CCNSG / HS&E MAPS certification.
