Lecturer in Chemical Engineering (CARMA) (KK12617)
We are seeking an outstanding and collaborative individual, with a passion for research and teaching, to contribute to the continued success, operation, and development of Chemical Engineering at Bath. The role involves increasing research activities in future-focused technologies for sustainability and preparing students for global challenges such as climate change, water, energy, food, and wellbeing. The department has extensive collaborations, excellent facilities, and strong industry links.
The candidate should demonstrate potential for or achievement of internationally leading research in tissue engineering or precision fermentation, with applications to cellular agriculture manufacturing. The role is within CARMA, the EPSRC-funded Sustainable Manufacturing Hub, which aims to transform food production towards sustainability.
Preferred expertise includes:
* Bioreactor design, build, and operation, utilizing multiscale fluid dynamics
* In silico multiscale modeling of bioreactors, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
* Bioprocess in silico modeling
* Interface and circularity between animal and microbial cell culture
* Upstream-downstream processes (harvesting, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics)
* Cell line development for scaled production
Research focus on scaffolds, materials, techno-economic analysis, life cycle analysis, and downstream processing is less competitive. Both wet lab and in silico activities, including AI and machine learning applications, are welcome.
The successful candidate will join one of the Faculty's Research Centres and the Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change.
