The Role
As a Principal Combat System Engineer, you will lead and shape the Strike Net programme within the Naval Combat Systems Integration Support Service (NCSISS), helping the Royal Navy to mature its Combat Systems Design Authority role.
Day-to-day, you’ll lead a team of engineers to deliver a prioritised programme of Strike Net activities, develop technical delivery plans, coordinate integration and trials, and provide impartial advice to MOD and suppliers.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Acting as the Strike Net Capability Lead, directing Combat Systems Engineers on programme development
2. Leading the delivery of a Strike Net Technical Delivery Plan across multiple workstreams
3. Engaging with customers, stakeholders and suppliers to align capability and programme requirements
4. Reviewing test plans, leading trials and overseeing post-trial analysis
5. Producing technical documentation and supporting artefacts for customer submissions
6. Supporting and directing sea trials on Royal Navy ships including potential overseas deployments
Essential experience of the Principal Combat System Engineer:
7. Strong leadership skills and proven management experience
8. Proven experience on maritime combat systems
9. Thorough knowledge of Test & Evaluation and Integration
10. 10+ years relevant experience in engineering or systems engineering
11. Ability to analyse problems logically and resolve issues
12. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical issues clearly
Essential qualifications for the Principal Combat System Engineer:
13. Honours degree in Engineering, Physics or similar
14. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or willingness to work towards
15. HNC/D level qualification (or equivalent) may be accepted with relevant experience

This role is full-time, based at Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP). Hybrid working patterns are available. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites in the UK and abroad will be expected.
