Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and innovative registered nurse or practitioner to join our IPC Team. The team is based at the RDUH Eastern site (Exeter) but provides a service across acute, community and mental health services. The role involves rotation across the whole IPC service.

Infection Prevention and Control Specialist Nurse/Practitioner – Band 6

Do you have excellent communication, clinical and leadership skills? Do you have Infection Prevention Control (IPC) expertise and / or significant experience of applying IPC best practice in your clinical work? Are you interested in working alongside enthusiastic colleagues at the Royal Devon University Healthcare (RDUH) NHS Foundation Trust?

The post holder will report to the Clinical Matron with an overall purpose of supporting the IPC service across the RDUH. The prevention of healthcare-associated infection (HCAI) is a corporate and national priority, and a core element of safe high-quality care that promotes patient dignity and positive experiences for patients and their families. You will need todemonstrate knowledge of national guidance and the Health and Social Care Act: Code of Practice for health and adult social care on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance (8, reviewed 0).

The post holder will be a role model for IPC, must be able to work independently across the setting, be an effective member of the wider team and demonstrate excellent communication skills. Working in this team will also support you to work autonomously to create quality improvement projects in IPC, using your creative and leadership skills whilst having support from the team to allow you to achieve these goals. Personal development is important to the RDUH IPC team and you will be supported and encouraged to undertake a programme of study in IPC at post graduate level.

You will need to be able to influence others, prioritise work and have a flexible approach. The role will be varied and includes: promoting best practice in respect to IPC, providing specialist advice and guidance for staff and patients, administering the audit programme, delivering educational sessions, analysing and interpreting data and preparing and delivering reports.

The post holder will have a driving license, their own means of transport and be willing to travel between different sites within the RDUH (Eastern) footprint but also more widely across Devon since some of the services provided are countywide or in rural settings.

Working hours per week. Typically, Monday to Friday (8am - 4pm) but with some weekend working

If you join before the implementation date, the pay award will be backdated to your start date. Until then, remuneration will be based on the 4/5 pay bandings (Pay scales for 4/ | NHS Employers)
