About the Service
We are a specialist residential mental health service supporting up to 15 adults with complex mental health needs, including schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, personality disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Our goal is to enable recovery, promote independence, and provide a safe, therapeutic environment where each person is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Role Purpose
As the Registered Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and regulatory compliance of the service. You will ensure delivery of safe, effective, person-centred care in line with CQC standards, legislative requirements, and organisational policies. You will inspire and lead your team to achieve excellence, foster a positive and inclusive culture, and maintain strong relationships with residents, families, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Provide clear, values-driven leadership to the staff team, ensuring a culture of openness, respect, and continuous improvement.
Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring staffing levels, skill mix, and resources meet the needs of the service.
Lead recruitment, training, supervision, appraisal, and performance management of staff.
Regulatory Compliance
Maintain CQC registration and ensure the service meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements under the Health and Social Care Act 2008.
Implement and monitor quality assurance systems, audits, and action plans to ensure ongoing compliance.
Lead on safeguarding adults procedures and ensure staff understand and fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities.
Service Delivery
Ensure residents receive personalised care and support plans that are co-produced, regularly reviewed, and outcome-focused.
Oversee risk assessment processes and ensure proactive risk management.
Promote recovery-focused approaches, positive behaviour support (PBS), and trauma-informed care practices.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with residents, families, commissioners, CQC, local authorities, and other professionals.
Represent the service at multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, reviews, and professional forums.
Continuous Improvement
Analyse incidents, feedback, and quality data to identify trends and drive service improvements.
Promote staff learning and development, embedding best practice from NICE, Skills for Care, and SCIE guidance.
Essential Criteria
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care (or willingness to complete).
Proven track record as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a CQC-registered service, ideally in specialist mental health.
Strong knowledge of CQC 2024 Single Assessment Framework, safeguarding, MCA/DoLS, and RSRCRC principles.
Experience in managing teams, budgets, and resources effectively.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to person-centred, recovery-focused care.
Desirable Criteria
Experience in forensic mental health, complex behaviours, or co-occurring conditions.
Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed approaches.
Strong local knowledge of Medway and Kent health and social care networks.
