Geotechnical Design Engineer

Due to continued growth, new investment and a significant increase in workload, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Design Engineer to assist in their further ambitious expansion plans. The successful candidate will possess a relevant qualification, coupled with some design experience in any area of the piling, foundations or ground engineering sectors.
The Role
* Preparation of innovative design solutions to compliment accurate cost estimates and competitive tender proposals
* Delivering a range of piling disciplines designs that meet customer requirements and company strategy
* Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure proposals are technically sound, commercially viable, and delivered within agreed timelines
* Review technical drawings to abstract and process the necessary information to produce designs for multi-discipline piling solutions
* Follow a project through with any design requirements as the contract develops or progresses, with site visits as required along with providing technical support to operations teams with the delivery
* Proficient working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and some experience with AutoCAD. You will be expected to have some site experience and be comfortable working in a site environment with an understanding of H&S requirements of being present on live construction sites
* This is a customer focused role that requires you to have the ability to engage with clients to determine their needs and articulate those requirements in order to provide a solution-based proposal.
* Day-to-day activities will include reviewing architectural and engineering drawings to ascertain the piling requirement, plotting boreholes and establishing a ground model, and developing piling solutions using specialist software packages
* The role will include designs for tenders which you will communicate to the Estimating Team, and contract designs which will involve writing Geotechnical Design Reports and developing CAD drawings.
The Person
* Be able to interpret engineering drawings and specifications to determine the scope of works
* Check the project requirements against the company’s governance procedure to determine the most appropriate engineering design solution
* Interpretation of Site / Ground Investigation reports to develop Ground Models, ascertaining appropriate geotechnical parameters.
* Prepare designs for piling solutions using the information provided by clients
* In conjunction with the Estimating and Operations Team, conduct site visits for understanding, analysis of conditions, assessment of risk and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in the tender documents
* Carry out site visits on live piling schemes to review design implementation and effectiveness
* Liaise with Contractors and Consultants on an ongoing basis to determine piling requirements and to develop an appropriate piling solution
* Comply with stated Company policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety legislation
